Privacy

This is a translation for convenience. The legally binding version is the German privacy policy.

Privacy matters to us – and we make it easy on ourselves, because we collect very little data in the first place. This site works without cookies, without advertising tools and without external fonts or third-party analytics. Even so, here is a transparent account of what happens behind the scenes.

At a glance

  • No cookies, no user profiles. We use no advertising tools and do not track you across websites.
  • No external fonts or third-party scripts. Everything this site loads comes from our own servers in Germany – including the small script for our forms.
  • Server logs are created by the hosting for technical reasons and are kept only briefly.
  • Analytics without a script and without a cookie: we count page views from our own server logs alone. Nothing is stored on your device for this, and your IP address is shortened before it is stored.
  • You decide when data is transmitted: the domain check only queries external services after you confirm, and forms submit your details only when you send them – and then exclusively to our own servers.

Hosting

We host this website with Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. The data is processed in a data centre in Germany.

When you visit our site, Hetzner processes the technically necessary connection data on our behalf (see “Server log files”). A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Hetzner. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating the website securely and reliably (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Server log files

When the site is accessed, some technical data is recorded automatically in what are known as log files – as on practically every website:

  • your IP address (shortened or only briefly),
  • date and time of access,
  • the page or file requested,
  • the referring page, if transmitted,
  • browser type and operating system.

This data serves secure operation, delivery of the site, defence against attacks and – in aggregated form – analytics (see the next section). It is not passed on to third parties and is deleted automatically after 14 days at the latest. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

Analytics

We would like to know which of our pages are read and how visitors find us. For that we evaluate only the server log files described above – no script, no cookie and no tracking pixel is used. Nothing is stored on or read from your device for this purpose; no consent is required (§ 25 (1) TDDDG does not apply, because your terminal equipment is not accessed).

We use the open-source software Matomo, which we run ourselves on our own server in Germany. No data whatsoever is transmitted to third parties.

What is evaluated:

  • the page requested and the time,
  • the referring page and campaign parameters from the link (e.g. ?ref=),
  • browser and operating system,
  • the country derived from the shortened IP address.

Your IP address is shortened before it is stored – the last two blocks are removed, so it can no longer be traced to a single connection; the country is determined from that shortened address only. Individual visit records are deleted automatically after six months. Beyond that, only aggregated figures without any personal reference remain (such as “page X was viewed this often on day Y”). The data is not combined with other data and no user profiles are created.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in designing our offering to meet demand (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). You may object to this processing at any time – see “Your rights”.

Cookies and local storage

We use no cookies for analytics or marketing purposes – and none that would require consent. That is why there is no cookie banner for you to click away here.

In two places we use your browser’s local storage:

  • Privacy confirmation: if you confirm the privacy notice in the domain check or in one of our forms, we remember that confirmation locally on your device so that you do not have to give it again on every visit.
  • Price display: if you switch the display to net prices (“business prices”) using the toggle in the footer, we remember that setting locally as well.

Both entries stay on your device, are not transmitted to us and can be deleted at any time through your browser settings. As they exclusively provide a function you have expressly requested, no consent is required (§ 25 (2) TDDDG).

Contacting us

If you contact us by email or telephone, we process your details in order to handle your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (initiation or performance of a contract) or Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (answering general enquiries). We store the data for as long as it is needed to deal with the matter, and beyond that only where statutory retention periods apply.

Forms (Form Gateway)

The forms on this website – the contact form and the enquiry forms for domains, hosting and maintenance contracts – send your details through our own Form Gateway, developed and operated by us on our own servers in Germany (form-gateway.techeve.de). No third parties are involved.

Transmitted are exclusively the details you enter in the respective form (e.g. name, email address, subject and message – depending on the form also company, domain or website and the package selected), together with your IP address and the time of submission for technical reasons. The gateway delivers your message to us as an email; conspicuous submissions may be held back briefly for spam protection before they are delivered or discarded. No storage beyond that takes place in the gateway.

As spam protection we use an invisible proof of work calculated locally in your browser, together with a hidden control field – not an external captcha such as Google reCAPTCHA. The small script needed for this is loaded from our own subdomain on pages with forms; the same server log data described under “Server log files” is created there.

The legal basis for the processing is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (handling your enquiry) or Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (protection against spam and misuse). Without JavaScript, submitting opens your own email program instead, with a prepared message to info@techeve.de.

Domain check

Our domain check lets you find out whether the domain you want is still available. This check runs directly in your browser and queries external directory services for that purpose:

  • Cloudflare DNS (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) for general name resolution, and
  • the official RDAP registration services of the registry responsible for the respective domain ending (e.g. Verisign for .com). Depending on the ending, these bodies may also be located outside the EU.

For technical reasons, the domain name you enter and your IP address are transmitted directly to these services. Because data may thereby be transferred to a third country (the USA) – particularly in Cloudflare’s case – we obtain your consent before first use (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Without your confirmation, no check and no transmission take place. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting the corresponding local entry in your browser.

File upload

For transferring larger files we operate our own upload service at upload.techeve.de, on servers in Germany, without registration and without third parties. Files you upload there are stored exclusively for the purpose of the exchange agreed with you and are deleted as soon as they are no longer needed for it. Technically, the same server log data described above is created. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. The service is only linked from this website and is not loaded automatically.

Remote support (RustDesk)

For remote support we use the open-source software RustDesk – via our own servers hosted in Germany. A remote session is only established if you expressly arrange it with us and actively permit the connection on your device; you can see what is happening at all times and can end the session whenever you wish. During a session, screen content and mouse and keyboard input are transmitted encrypted through our servers. We do not record sessions; the relay server only sees technical connection data (e.g. device ID, IP address, time). The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. The programs offered on the remote support page are downloaded directly from our own servers.

Our site contains links to external offerings (for example to reference projects, to dns-editor.de or to services from Google). As soon as you follow such a link, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies, over whose content we have no influence.

Use of AI

For the sake of completeness, even though no data processing is involved: parts of the texts and of the site structure were created in collaboration with AI. Most of the graphics – backgrounds, icons and preview images – are generated from code, that is from drawing instructions we wrote ourselves, and do not come from an AI image generator. Should we use images generated entirely by an AI in future, we will mark them visibly with “Created with AI” (details in the imprint).

Two things matter for you as a visitor: this site uses no AI in operation – there is no chatbot, no text analysis and no automated evaluation of your behaviour. And no visitor data was processed in creating the content; your entries in forms or in the domain check never flow into an AI system.

Your rights

You have the right at any time to:

  • information about the data stored about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR),
  • erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) and restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR),
  • withdraw consent you have given, with effect for the future.

An informal message to info@techeve.de is enough to exercise these rights.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Thuringian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (TLfDI), Häßlerstraße 8, 99096 Erfurt, Germany.

Security

This website is delivered exclusively encrypted over HTTPS (SSL/TLS), so that communication between your browser and our server is protected against being read by third parties.

Changes

We adapt this privacy policy whenever our offering or the legal requirements change.
